"Change is inevitable, but transformation is a choice." - Heather Ash Amara
Artist Statement:
"Monarch butterflies are widely known for their annual
migratory patterns, with some traversing over 1,000 miles from Mexico to California to the Rocky Mountains each summer. The caterpillars subsist entirely on the host plant Asclepias, milkweed.
In addition to the monarch being a symbol for resilience and migration, it's own physical transformation the pprocess of metamorphosis, is another change it undergoes in it's brief lifespan.
In this design, California milkweed flowers, buds, and leaves serving as decorative filigree. All these elements underline the intersectionality of immigrant rights’ activism, breaking our regressive conception of borders, and the stewardship of our indigenous species and peoples."
