Bandana Designed by Artist: Stephany Sanchez
Bandana Designed by Artist: Stephany Sanchez
This design highlights the essential car wash workers and vendors, who are disproportionately vulnerable to exploitation and targeting by ICE agents due to their visible, outdoor labor. The illustration reimagines these workers as warriors and resilient individuals who show up to work daily, driven by the necessity to support themselves and their families in the U.S. and their countries of origin. They hold car wash tools instead of weapons, representing community resilience and organizing.
At the center of the bandana is a pig's head, wearing a conquistador hat and that is pierced by a spear. This imagery critiques the violent tactics employed by ICE and law enforcement against migrants seeking a better life. The pig, associated with militarized and racist structures that perpetuate harm in our communities. The spear through its head signifies resistance and the dismantling of these oppressive systems.
